What to Pack

WHAT TO PACK AND WHAT TO LEAVE HOME

Hye Camp is a place for older clothes, shoes, etc. Everything will get dirty. Also, belongings sometimes get mixed up in a cabin so please mark all your belongings with your name or initials.

Please consider the following guidelines when selecting what clothes to pack for Hye Camp. The Camp Committee formulated these recommendations under the guidance of our Primate, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, in order to encourage modesty at our church camp. We suggest that all camp participants use common sense when packing and adhere to the Dress Code and Guidelines as closely as possible.

  • CLOSED-TOED SHOES AND SHIRTS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES OUTSIDE CABINS, EXCEPT WHILE SWIMMING.

  • Pants and shorts must be worn at the waist. No sagging pants or shorts are permitted.

  • Shorts, skirts and dresses should be modest in length (no “short-shorts”). Use the “fingertip rule” as a guideline. Slits in skirts and dresses should also be modest in length.

  • No undergarments or midsections should be visible.

  • Sheer clothing is not permitted.

  • Clothing with inappropriate symbols or messages on it (e.g., clothing that promotes tobacco, alcohol, controlled substances or contains inappropriate language or pictures) is not permitted.

  • Swimsuits should be modest.

  • When walking back and forth from the lake area, cover-ups should be worn over swimsuits.

  • Hats should not be worn during chapel services.

If you have any questions about these Guidelines, please contact info@hyecamp.com before you come to Hye Camp. We realize these Guidelines might appear to be subjective, as words like “modest” and “appropriate” may mean different things to different people. Please note that the Directing Staff and Chaplain will have oversight over these matters at their respective weeks of Hye Camp, and at their discretion, may ask you to change if they consider your clothing is not in line with these Guidelines.
